Fragmentación: Papaya
“Fragmentación” (2019) is a video art piece by Ecuadorian multidisciplinary artist Doménica García.
“Fragmentación” takes place in a magical realist Mexico City where two women embark on a journey through their sexuality. “Fragmentación” is a continuous compilation of 10 video art pieces that merge elements of performance art and traditional cinema. Each scene is a forgotten memory, portrayed by a visual metaphor with a unique surrealist touch. "Fragmentación" was produced in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City.
“Fragmentación: Papaya” is García’s first piece minted on the Ethereum Blockchain. The artist will release the remaining 9 video art pieces that make up the full film “Fragmentación” to acquire for collection.
Fragmentación has been screened and exhibited at the Museum of the Moving Image, Queens, NY; Bushwick Film Festival, Brooklyn, NY; Microscope Gallery, New York, NY; Granoff Center for the Creative Arts at Brown University, Providence, RI.

About the Artist
Doménica García (b. 1996, Quito, Ecuador) is an Ecuadorian multidisciplinary artist based in New York. Her work delves into a process of introspection, exploring the personal and discovering the universal. With the use of a hyperbolic language and the juxtaposition of the radical with the ordinary, she gives greater relevance to the day-to-day experience. García’s multimedia approach, particularly merging performance and digital art, allows her to manipulate the perception of reality, facilitating a fantastic and surreal experience within the rational world.
García’s work has been shown in the Atlanta Film Festival, Atlanta, GA; San Diego Latino Film Festival, San Diego, CA; Queens Museum, Queens, NY; Museum of the Moving Image, Queens, NY; Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, Boston, MA; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Quito, Quito, EC; Microscope Gallery, New York, NY; Center for Performance Research, Brooklyn, NY; and Granoff Center for the Creative Arts, Providence, RI.
García is a recipient of the New York Foundation For The Arts (NYFA) NFT Award, Foundation for Contemporary Arts (FCA) Emergency Grant, Studio Relief Residency at NARS Foundation, Center of Performance Research (CPR) Artist in Residence, Smack Mellon Artist in Residence, New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship.
García earned a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and is currently pursuing an MFA at Columbia University.
